Everything is planned the day before and when they come in the next day they find out timings and extra stuff.

Always try and learn about radio and go to areas to work for free or expose yourself to how radio works, pick up skills on organisation, communication and listening skills. Direct people in radio and ask to get involved. It involves more than what people see. And get experience and learn skills, present as much as possible.
