Newspaper front cover and Evaluation

1) What was the task you were given and who was your target audience?

7) In the exam, you will be analysing newspaper front covers. In producing this cover, are there any areas that you hadn't noticed before? What have you learnt from completing this task?

1. The task that I received was to recreate a newspaper front cover with a story about Meghan Markle. The target audience was the traditional audience of the daily mail which is mostly the older generations and people of ABC1 situations.

2. The research that I undertook was to look at the typical codes and conventions of the daily mail and to analysis other daily mail front covers to allow myself to get a close representation of what the front cover should look like. For the layout, I found out that it should be Title to the advertisement and then to multiple articles next to each other. For the type of stories, I found out that the usual daily mail audience prefers political conversations and royalist ideas so these are what I went for with a twist on the world cup that's coming up. And also the fonts I researched what fonts are the best to use and the one I used represented the correct font in the best way.

3. I chose a daily mail front cover about taxes and royals which is close to what my articles are about. The observations I took from the source are how the front cover should be set out and how the advertisement should look to make the front cover as close to the real one as possible. Also, both pictures are at the same place and are similar in theme.

4. The most challenging areas were making sure the text was the right size and that it fit each line which made problems such as having to change words and even making a new theme. Also, the other big problem was the resolution of some photos and some work had to be scrapped too and higher resolution photos took their place.

5. Others said that the front cover was very good and realistic but also it needed to have a much bigger font for my long paragraphs and spacing could have been better. I think that the front cover went well and looks quite similar but different fonts and more time took on the sizes could have made it look even better.

6. What went well on my front cover was the advertisement as it looks quite professional and is the best thing on my front cover. Also in hindsight, I could have downloaded a more professional font that looked closer to the real font than the one I chose. Also, I would swap the two articles as I think I could have had a better picture for Brexit and a more detailed article for the Meghan Markle story.

7. What I learnt about the daily mail from doing this task was what the daily mail consider to be important news and how the daily mail set out a newspaper. And finally I learnt how to properly use photoshop.
