Radio 1 hosts a
giveaway each day on their breakfast show, this allows the audience to phone in
and enter. This improves the audience participation because it shows how many
people are watching the radio in the morning and are also willing to interact
which shows they are properly listening. The picture below shows three
different days and the giveaway for each. The giveaways are usually tailored to
a younger 16-30 audience by giving festival tickets and tickets to artists that
are usually listened to by younger people. By hosting giveaways on a daily
basis, it means that people will listen daily and to the whole show instead of
tuning in and out once a week or so forth. Also, only people that listen out
for a specific keyword and then can recite it back when they receive a phone
call from the producers will win which means that people listen for longer
periods of time and become regular listeners. They target 16-30-year olds
because it is the demographic that they want to listen to radio 1 and tailor
the giveaways to match this.
